Apple Picking For The Perfect Apple Crumble!

One of my all-time favourite desserts is a classic apple crumble! As the nights get darker and the weather gets cold, a warm delicious apple crumble is the perfect pudding!

A fun autumnal activity before you start baking, is to pick the fruits yourself! I went to local orchard to collect some apples, as the season is coming to an end now I had to reach high to get the perfect apple. My recipe is for anyone that loves a golden, crunchy crumble topping, with sweet apples and a hint of cinnamon!

Preparation Time - 15 minutes

Cooking Time - 40-45 minutes

Serves 5

Ingredients:

-          100g butter and extra to grease the pie dish.

-          200g plain flour

-          180g caster sugar

-          A squeeze of lemon juice

-          ½ teaspoon of cinnamon

-          Sprinkle of demerara sugar for on top.

-          450g (4-5 apples) chopped

-          Custard or ice cream to serve

 To make the crumble:

1. Preheat the oven to 200°C

2. Rub the butter and flour together to resemble breadcrumbs and stir in 100g of caster sugar.

3. Wash, peel and chop the apples into chunks and place into a mixing bowl.

4. Add the lemon juice, remaining sugar, and cinnamon over the apples. Mix till combined and everything is coated.

5. Grease individual pie dishes or a large pie dish depending on preference and place the apple mixture into it.

6. Carefully pour the crumble over the apples and sprinkle demerara on top for a golden crunch!

7. Pop the dish in the oven and allow to bake for 40-45 minutes or until the top begins to turn golden brown.

Serve hot with custard or ice cream and enjoy!
